AN American woman who allegedly plotted the real-life abduction of a man she met through the virtual reality website Second Life was charged with attempted kidnapping yesterday, US authorities said.

Woman charged in bid to kidnap virtual boyfriend

Kimberly Jernigan drove to the 52-year-old man’s apartment with a stun gun, handcuffs and duct tape but fled when he returned to his Maryland home and discovered her, court records showed.

The pair met on the social site Second Life, which enables users to create alter egos and have virtual lives online, but the man ended the relationship after they met in person.

Jernigan, 33, from Durham, North Carolina, faces charges including attempted kidnapping, aggravated menacing and burglary.

News station CBS3.com reported she allegedly earlier tried to kidnap the same man at gunpoint at his workplace in Pennsylvania.

When that failed, she allegedly posed as a postal worker for four days to track down the man’s address to the apartment at Whitney Presidential Towers in Claymont, Delaware.

Jernigan is accused of breaking into her ex-boyfriend’s apartment, and trying to abduct him with a Taser gun when he returned home, New Castle County police spokesman Corporal Trinidad Navarro told the Delaware News Journal.

The man fled and called police, who issued a radio broadcast for her arrest.
