Teenager gets 51 staples after unprovoked attack

POLICE are hunting a thug who inflicted these horrific injuries in an unprovoked attack on a teenager.

Teenager gets 51 staples after unprovoked attack

Daniel Powell, 18, from Oldham, Greater Manchester, needed more than 50 staples after being hit over the head with the butt of a glass bottle.

Powell had been with friends enjoying a night out in Oldham but got separated and went to look for them.

While on his own it is believed he was approached by a group of men — and without provocation one of them attacked him with the bottle.

He suffered a fractured skull, bleeding to his brain, and needed 51 staples to his head following surgery.

The severity of his injuries means Powell cannot remember much about the incident and cannot say for certain what bar he was in or provide an accurate description of his attackers.

Police believe he was in a bar on Yorkshire Street in Oldham, when he was attacked, at about 2.45am on Sunday, July 20.

He does remember a woman, who police want to trace, giving him first aid after he collapsed.

Detective Constable Jed Stubbs, from Greater Manchester Police said: “Because the victim cannot remember what happened, we need the public’s help in piecing together exactly what happened and where, so we can trace the offender and bring him to justice.”

Powell was released from hospital last night.
