Value of horses no longer just genetics

THE higher a show-jumping horse can tuck up its front legs the higher its price on the international market, leading bioengineer Dr Sian Lawson showed yesterday.

This contradicts previous assumptions that the back legs are the most important feature in a show jumper.

The “forelimb tuck” distance can be measured in a three-year-old horse to determine its worth.
