Deneuve the star attraction as Indie buzz builds

THE stars turned out in force last night for the premiere of Un Conte De Noel (A Christmas Tale), a tragic but comic tale of love, death, family strife and forgiveness.

Bono, Sean Penn, Jean-Claude van Damme and star of the film, the legendary Catherine Deneuve, all graced the red carpet for the premiere in Cannes.

Meanwhile, with the festival shrouded in drizzle, Harrison Ford took a stroll on the beach yesterday under an umbrella instead of his crumpled Indiana Jones fedora.

Ford was in the Riviera city ahead of the world premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull tomorrow, the high point of this year’s festival.

With Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Cate Blanchett also already in town, the entrance to Cannes’ famed Carlton Hotel was yesterday turned into a giant gate to the world of Indiana Jones. Decorated with skulls, snakes and skulls, the portico of the celebrated early 20th-century Riviera hotel featured pictures of Ford and Blanchett along with the movie title and its global release date — May 22.

The swashbuckling archaeologist famous for his fedora and cracking bullwhip returns after 19 years for the fourth episode in the saga, the most eagerly anticipated blockbuster of the year.
