TV presenter’s body undetected for ‘several days’

POLICE are investigating the death of children’s television presenter Mark Speight, amid speculation his body had remained undetected in a building adjacent to Paddington Station for several days.

Police discovered the body of the 42-year-old, who had been missing and in a “vulnerable” state since last Monday, hanging in a building on Sunday morning.

A source from the London station told the Daily Mail: “It looks like he went to this area and killed himself. He was there for a good few days before anyone found him. The area is so remote that even station staff rarely visit it.”

A postmortem examination is due to take place and Speight’s family was expected to formally identify the body later last night or today.

“A report is being prepared for the coroner and investigations are continuing,” the police added.

Speight, 42, had been missing since April 7.

The popular presenter was reportedly struggling to come to terms with the death of his fiancee Natasha Collins earlier this year.

The actress was found dead in the bath at the couple’s north-west London flat on January 3 after a drink and drugs binge.

The inquest that followed recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.

Speight’s agent Jan Kennedy, of Billy Marsh Associates, said: “Caring and compassionate in everything he did, we are proud to have represented him as a friend and client.”

Speight was best known for his role as a TV host on the BBC’s children show SMart.
