Policeman may have been planning killing spree, it is revealed
Detectives said Garry Weddell may have intended to kill other family members after blasting his mother-in-law with a shotgun.
The London Metropolitan Police inspector lay in wait with the weapon for 70-year-old Traute Maxfield close to her Hertfordshire village home just north of London. He shot the widow in the neck and groin after confronting her in the house before driving to a pub several miles away for a pint.
