Kenyans burned alive in village attack

DOZENS of armed attackers stormed a village in western Kenya yesterday killing at least 13 people, including six children.

The raiders burned some of their victims alive in their homes, police said.

The attack was on Embakasi village in a region 300 miles north-west of Nairobi which has seen frequent, bloody clashes over land.

Kenya’s National Police spokesman Eric Kiraithe said the fighting was over land, not the disputed December presidential election, which unleashed weeks of nationwide bloodshed.

Rabson Mbuya, who said his wife, three children and housekeeper were killed, said: “I saw them knock the door of my house several times,” said a weeping Mr Mbuya.

“But when there was no response, one spilled petrol on the roof before torching it. I heard my wife and children scream but there was no way I could go near and rescue them.”

He said he also saw a three-year-old boy hacked to death.
