... but in Gaza the hatred and violence continues

TENS of thousands of Palestinians in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip demonstrated yesterday against the Middle East peace conference in the US, while the Islamic militant group’s leader insisted it was “doomed to failure”.

In the West Bank city of Hebron, Palestinian police loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas violently dispersed a demonstration against the peace conference, killing one protester, medical officials said.

Mr Abbas was attending the Annapolis, Maryland, conference and protesters in a Gaza City square called him a “collaborator” for participating and chanted “Death to America” and “Death to Israel”.
