OJ Simpson questioned over burglarly at Las Vegas casino
Simpson has been questioned in connection with a break-in involving sports memorabilia at a Las Vegas casino hotel room, police said yesterday.
Simpson is accused of breaking into a room at the Palace Station Casino in Las Vegas on Thursday, according to NBC5.
Las Vegas police spokesman Jose Montoya said Simpson, who was not arrested, was released.
Photographers clam-oured to get a shot of the star as he left the station, the scene a throwback to the media hysteria surrounding his 1994 murder trial.
He was released while the investigation continued, though was understood to have remained in Las Vegas.
Several other people were also questioned.
The American football star’s book about the killings of his ex-wife and her friend, entitled If I Did It, was published in the US on Thursday.
Simpson was cleared of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman after a high-profile trial in 1995.
In July, a federal bankruptcy judge awarded the rights to his book to Mr Goldman’s family to help satisfy a $38 million (€27.4m) wrongful death judgment against Simpson.
Beaufort Books published the book after Harper Collins dropped it because of public outrage.
An unnamed auctioneer said Simpson was retrieving his personal possessions that were stolen from him.
The auctioneer told Las Vegas TV news station KVVU: “About a month ago, we were contacted by a customer saying they had a bunch of OJ’s personal possessions and that they had confiscated them from OJ for payment that OJ owed them.
“We did a signing with him (Simpson) over in LA a couple of years ago and I called and he said they were stolen from him.”
Simpson shot to worldwide infamy when tried for the murder of his ex-wife Ms Brown Simpson and her friend Mr Goldman, who were found stabbed to death outside his LA condominium. The televised trial, which ended in his highly controversial acquittal, captivated audiences around the globe.
