30 years on Elvis and his daughter sing together

A VERSION of Elvis Presley’s hit song In the Ghetto, featuring his daughter’s voice, has been created to mark the 30th anniversary today of the king of rock ’n’ roll’s death.

The video, which adds Lisa Marie Presley’s voice to the original 1969 hit, will be posted on the AOL website Spinner.com tomorrow, a company spokesman said.

It features Lisa Marie and images of her late father — who died on August 16, 1977.

Spinner.com will post the video along with the transcript of an interview with Lisa Marie Presley, said AOL spokesman Kurt Patat.

In the interview, Presley said the project was emotionally stirring.

“We had two hours to lay down my vocals,” she said. “So the next morning, I heard the rough... and... I’ve never cried when I’ve done anything... ever... but I just lost it when I heard it.

“It’s pretty organic. There are no bells and whistles — they just added me into the original recording.”

She also talked in the interview about how she was offended to see her father’s song Viva Las Vegas used in a Viagra commercial.

“I find that revolting,” she said.

Presley, 39, is also due to attend a concert in Memphis today.

It will feature her father performing on video, with live support from his former backing singers and band members.

Meanwhile, there may be only one Elvis Presley — but there are an awful lot of Elvis impersonators.

The number of Elvis tribute acts around the world is nearing 200,000, according to recent estimates.

And now, one Elvis-alike is to get the official seal of approval from Graceland.

For the first time ever, Presley’s estate is holding a contest to find the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist. Ten finalists will battle it out in Memphis for the coveted title,

The winner gets $5,000 (€ 3,713) in cash, another $5,000 to spent at Graceland and a $3,000 (€2,227) gift certificate towards the purchase of a jumpsuit.
