For sale: beach hut without electricity or water for £95,000

A BRICK hut in England without electricity or running water but boasting panoramic sea views went on the market for £95,000 (€140,000), yesterday.

The semi-detached beach hut in Poole, Dorset, has its own private patio, an inside sitting area, storage cupboards, a sink and battery-operated lights with tiled flooring.

But buyers are not paying for the frugal facilities, lack of basic utilities or limited space on offer.

The £95,000 price tag for the hut is down to the panoramic sea views and owning the freehold of a prime beachfront location.

The 4.23m by 2.28m brick-built hut is in Canford Cliffs, a prestigious Poole suburb close to the millionaire’s enclave at Sandbanks in Dorset.

It has direct access to the beach and the current owners have given it a face-lift.

The demand for beach huts in the area is so high the Borough of Poole has a 10-year waiting list for its stock of more than 1,200 huts along the seafront.

The council has closed its waiting list due to the sheer volume of Poole residents applying for a one-year lease.

Keith Fensom, director at Savills estate agent, which is handling the sale, said: “There are a number of beach huts around but they belong to the council and the waiting lists are absolutely ridiculous.

“The chance to own your own beach hut should be very appealing. The views are uninterrupted and panoramic. You can see across to the Isle of Wight in the west and to Purbeck and Old Harry Rocks in the west.”
