Iconic Monet star of €670m auction

A COLLECTION of impressionist, modern and contemporary artwork was previewed yesterday ahead of a sale that will see up to £454 million worth (€672m) of art being sold.

Auction house Sotheby’s said that the week commencing June 18 will see sales set to be the highest value series ever staged by the company in Europe.

Starring in the sale is a £10m-£15m (€22m) Claude Monet — an iconic work from the artist’s celebrated water lilies series, which Sotheby’s said was one of the finest ever to have come on the market.
