Put on the red light: Police tickets sell out in 90 minutes

SEND an SOS to the world — another concert will be needed to satisfy Irish fans of the reformed Police.

It took just under an hour and a half for the band’s concert in October to sell out yesterday. Only a week after the gig was announced the €86 tickets rushed out of shops and online sites as soon as they hit the market at 8am.

Managing director of Ticketmaster Ireland Eamonn O’Connor said the level of demand had been anticipated.

“Obviously they have not played for so many years so we knew there would be a lot of interest. This puts them in the real supergroup category with the likes of U2,” he said.

Tickets were limited to six per person to avoid touts but already they have appeared on the internet auction site eBay.

The bidding was slow on the few available but the seller was expecting the price to rise steadily before today’s cut-off. “Must see concert. Great value. bought the tickets today but realised I have a wedding the same day. Feel free to email any questions. Happy bidding,” the seller wrote.

The three-piece band is made up of Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers, who recently reunited for a performance at the Grammy Awards to celebrate their 30th anniversary, 21 years after their last concert. Soon afterwards it was announced they had organised a world tour.
