In Hitler-berg’s shadow
According to news service Spiegel online, a 1,205m high mountain in Bavaria, officially named Heigelkopf, appears in the programme under the ominous name “Hitler-Berg”.
The German capital Berlin also runs under a different title: “Nazi-Germany”.
Google Germany spokes-person, Stefan Keuchel, has an easy answer: “Hitler-Berg used to be the name of the mountain in the past, it’s as simple as that.”
The mountain was renamed by Hitler-followers in 1933 but was changed back at the end of the war. Earlier attempts to delete the name from Google Earth failed. “That was unfortunate”, admits Keuchel. “But from now on, the name Hitler-Berg has to disappear from Google Earth forever.” So does Nazi-Germany.
