Size zero figure unattractive, poll finds

NEARLY three-quarters of women would like to be thinner but most think size zero figures are unattractive, according to a survey.

Size zero figure unattractive, poll finds

The poll, for TV show The Truth About Size Zero, discovered women admired curvy figures like Kate Winslet, Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe more than Madonna’s sinewy frame or Victoria Beckham’s slim build.

Less than a quarter (23%) of the 1,206 women polled were happy with their dress size and 72% wanted to lose weight, but size 12 was the most desirable figure (27%).

Nearly all of those questioned (90%) said the US size zero, equivalent to a British size four, was unattractive. Pressure to be thin was felt strongest among the 16 to -34 age group (54%) but dropped to 29% of those aged 55 and over. The top reason to lose weight was self-confidence (27%) but 23% said the fashion industry made them want to be thinner. The poll’s dream body would include Jennifer Aniston’s arms, Cheryl Cole’s breasts, Nelly Furtado’s stomach, Beyonce’s hips and bottom, and Ms Beckham’s legs.
