Britney sparks fresh frenzy as she checks into rehab

POP princess Britney Spears has checked into a rehab centre, triggering a fresh media frenzy just days after her head-shaving antics.

Paparazzi used helicopters in an effort to snatch aerial pictures of the exclusive Malibu treatment centre where Spears is believed to have voluntarily checked in.

A statement released to People magazine by Spears’s representative confirmed the singer had entered rehab.

Her head-shaving last Friday has sparked intense speculation about her mental state.

“Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into an undisclosed rehab facility today,” the statement from Spears’s representative said.

“We ask that the media respect her privacy as well as that of her family and friends at this time.”

Spears’s management could not be reached for comment, but celebrities routinely use People magazine as a conduit for significant announcements.
