Moss denies marrying Doherty on Thai beach

KATE MOSS yesterday denied that she married pop singer Pete Doherty while on holiday in Thailand.

Moss denies marrying Doherty on Thai beach

The supermodel and pop star are reported to have made a formal commitment to each other in a private beach ceremony during an exotic New Year break.

Her spokesman Stuart Higgins, however, insisted the model was simply holidaying on the southern island of Phuket.

He said: “Contrary to various entirely false media reports today, there has not been any kind of marriage ceremony in Thailand. She is on holiday.”

The couple were photographed celebrating with champagne at a villa overlooking a beach on the island.

Moss was pictured barefoot in a silver dress, while Doherty wore a black suit and his trademark trilby hat.

It was reported that they had undertaken a 30-minute ceremony to formalise their relationship.

Wedding services including Buddhist prayers, the pouring of blessed water and entwining of flower garlands are popular among visitors to the romantic Thai island.

But such ceremonies are not legally binding and British participants must still undertake a civil service in Britain.

Britain’s Daily Mail newspaper had reported that the on-again, off-again couple had wed in a romantic Buddhist ceremony at the exclusive Amanpuri resort.

But a spokeswoman of Amanpuri, who declined to be named, denied reports of a wedding ceremony between the 32-year-old model and her 27-year-old boyfriend, who is battling drug addiction.

“There was no marriage of Kate Moss and Doherty. The couple haven’t even stayed here,” the spokeswoman said Tuesday.

“Our rooms have been totally booked since a month ago and there is no space for the wedding,” she added.

The British press have been reporting, over the last few days, that Moss travelled to Phuket to bring in the New Year at a lavish party thrown by socialite David Tang, which was also attended by Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

They are all staying at Amanpuri, according to the Daily Mail, which said a 40-minute wedding ceremony outside the couple’s villa was attended by friends and family.

Located on the coast of the Andaman sea, Amanpuri consists of 40 pavilions and 31 villas, and is one of the most exclusive resorts in Thailand.

The villas in which the model and musician were reported to be staying cost €1,800 per night.

Doherty, currently serving a two-year supervision order for drug offences, has in the past been fined for possessing illegal drugs, including crack cocaine and heroin.

Moss, one of the world’s highest-paid models, recently resurrected her career following drug-taking revelations after a newspaper published pictures of her allegedly taking cocaine.

Thailand has very strict laws against drug use, with traffickers sometimes executed. Those caught in possession of illegal drugs face lengthy prison sentences in the country’s notoriously tough jails.

The couple’s rocky relationship has been well documented since they met at her 31st birthday party in north London.

Speculation over their wedding has been rife since the couple revealed their engagement in October.

Moss, 32, and Doherty, 27, are tipped to tie the knot on January 18, and have asked friends to keep the date free, The Sun newspaper reported.

Bookmakers who have taken bets on the couple getting married this year said they are “living on borrowed time”.
