Jungle Jan gets creeped out during bushtucker trial
The 64-year-old wailed: “Get me out of here!” before the task was halfway through.
And she branded presenters Ant and Dec “bastards” for making her grapple with rats, snakes and slimy toads.
It was day one in the Australian jungle and the group immediately set about earning a first meal.
Leeming — who has never seen the ITV/TV3 show — volunteered for the trial, ominously titled Mine Shaft Misery. The former BBC presenter has recently retrained as a safari ranger and wild cat handler.
She was lowered down the mine shaft into the darkness and told to feel for caverns hidden in the walls.
Each cavern contained a star which guaranteed a meal for the group but was also home to an assortment of bugs and creatures.
The first cavern was filled with scorpions and the second with green ants.
She grabbed the stars from both — but panic soon set in.
“I’m covered in ants and they’re biting me,” she said.
She abandoned the next two caverns filled with rats and snakes. The next was home to cavern toads, which Leeming threw to the ground one by one.
She managed to grab the star — then decided she’d had enough.
“Bring me up,” she begged. “Please get me out of here.”
Leeming dropped one of the precious stars as she was winched back to the top.
Leeming later broke down in tears back at the camp over her failure to complete the task.
Leeming is one of 10 celebrities competing in the reality show.
Singer Jason Donovan remains bookies’ favourite to win the new series.
