Children found dead in home asphyxiated, say police

Detectives are continuing to question the father of Caitlin Samuel, five, and her three-year-old brother Aidan Samuel, who were assaulted in Bodelwyddan, north Wales, on Sunday.

Their father, named locally as 35-year-old Perry Samuel, was arrested on suspicion of murder at the scene. Their mother, named locally as Sarah Graham, was not at home when the tragedy took place.

Initial reports suggested the children — described by their grieving family as “little angels” — were drowned in the bath.

However, post-mortem examination results showed Caitlin and Aidan died as a result of asphyxiation.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Police refused to give precise details on how the children died but said they were not drowned or strangled. However, she confirmed both children were found in the bath.

The children’s family have described the deaths as “incomprehensible” and their mother is said to be “traumatised”.

Their father remains in custody and detectives have until 11pm tonight to continue questioning him.
