Victim’s horrific ordeal shocked nation

IT WAS a chilling crime that shocked Britain.

Predatory paedophile Peter Voisey sneaked through an unlocked back door, into a bathroom and grabbed a six-year-old and drove off with his victim before subjecting her to a terrifying and depraved double sexual attack in his dilapidated Vauxhall Astra.

Jurors at Newcastle Crown Court wept when they heard the little girl was so frightened she thought she would never see her mother again.

But just 15 minutes after he put his plan into action, the 6ft 2in 35-year-old father dumped her, naked and shivering in a freezing back alley near her home in north Tyneside, near Newcastle.

No one knows what motivated the attack, but police believe he may have been out burgling when he saw the girl in the bath and could not resist the urge to act out his desires.

The attack had echoes of an equally brazen indecent assault Voisey inflicted on a 12-year-old in a swimming pool changing room four years before.

The advertising van driver was in Macclesfield, Cheshire when he entered a leisure centre, watched two girls wash their hair in the showers, grabbed one, told her to be quiet, then molested her.

It was only because he was caught on CCTV camera that he confessed and was jailed for three years at Chester Crown Court in October 2001. The sentence was reduced to two years by an appeal judge.

His 12-year-old victim, who looked younger than her age, told police: “He was much older than me and I was scared. I kept screaming for my friend.”

Voisey, who changed his name to Smith by deed poll when he was 16, was placed on the sex offenders register.
