‘Swift’ decision promised on workers from new EU states

THE Government last night promised a swift decision on whether Romanian and Bulgarian workers will be given easy access to jobs here after both nations were put on a fast-track to EU membership.

The impoverished countries will join the union in January — but under strict conditions.

Minister for European Affairs Noel Treacy said he was glad both ex-Communist countries had been given the green light to join the EU.
