Israeli police storm British Embassy
There were no reports of injuries. The man had burst into the embassy several hours earlier, demanding political asylum.
Police said the forces seized and disarmed the man after he laid down his pistol for a split second to eat food they had given him. It was later reported that the gun was plastic.
Embassy spokeswoman Karen Kaufman confirmed the man was arrested after a co-ordinated effort with British officials. “As far as the embassy is concerned, the event is over. We are very grateful to Israeli police for their swift response and excellent co-operation throughout the incident.”
Nadim Injaz, aged 28, a resident of the West Bank city of Ramallah and suspected informer for the Israelis, burst into the embassy by jumping a fence.
In a dramatic interview on live television, he said he would rather die than return to the West Bank.
