Iran challenges UN authority

IRAN’S President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad yesterday challenged the authority of the UN Security Council and called for a televised debate with US President George W Bush on world issues.

The security council has given Iran until tomorrow to suspend enrichment, a process that can produce either fuel for a reactor or material for weapons, or face economic and political sanctions.

“The US and Britain are the source of many tensions,” Mr Ahmadinejad said at a news conference.
