Angry man demolishes house with digger
Robert Taylor, of no fixed address, is accused of criminal damage with intent to endanger life following the incident in Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, yesterday.
He is also charged with three counts of criminal damage in relation to three cars including a police car, affray and assault of a police officer, Essex Police said.
Taylor is in custody and is due to appear before magistrates in Chelmsford this morning.
The couple whose home was destroyed said yesterday they were relieved to have found their pet cat safe and well.
Ashley, an eight-year-old pedigree Korat, vanished after the house was demolished early yesterday.
The 52-year-old man was arrested after police were called to the caravan park following reports that a man was trying to demolish a house with a digger.
The digger was then allegedly used to damage a police car, which had two officers inside, and two other cars, police said.
A police spokeswoman said the three-bedroom house was “severely damaged”.
Mr Harvard said: “If you want to see an earthquake zone – come to Bradwell.”
Ms Gledhill, in her 40s, was alone in the house at the time it was damaged.
It is believed that yesterday’s incident followed a disagreement over money.
