Da Vinci stars make tracks to Cannes premiere

THE stars of movie blockbuster The Da Vinci Code began their worldwide promotional blitz yesterday with a trip on the Eurostar.

Tom Hanks and fellow cast members were travelling to the Cannes Film Festival, where the big-screen adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestseller will have its world premiere tonight.

And they were hoping to enter the record books by making the longest international non-stop rail journey to get there.

Eurostar laid on a special train — named The Da Vinci Code — to whisk the cast from London’s Waterloo to Cannes.

The journey of 883 miles (1,421km) will make it into the Guinness World Records.

Hanks was joined at Waterloo by co-stars Audrey Tautou, Sir Ian McKellen, Paul Bettany, Jean Reno and Alfred Molina.

Director Ron Howard was also making the trip.

The Da Vinci Code is hyped to become the blockbuster of the year when it opens worldwide on Friday. Hanks plays academic Robert Langdon, who sets out to unravel the mystery of the Holy Grail.

The Oscar-winning star got his own entry in the record books last week. He was named as the actor with the most consecutive €100 million-grossing movies, after scoring seven huge box office hits in succession.
