Young girl poisoned with salt left permanently brain damaged

A WOMAN who poisoned an eight-year-old girl with salt leaving her with permanent brain damage wept in the dock today as she was jailed for four years.

Susan Hamilton, aged 39, of Edinburgh was told the effects of her actions had been ‘disastrous’.

Hamilton fed the girl with a tube through her nostril and down her throat until May 1995, when she was given a gastronomy and a feeding tube was put directly into her stomach.
