Serb surrenders to UN

THE wartime leader of the Yugoslav army surrendered to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague yesterday to face allegations stemming from the Balkan wars of the 1990s.

General Momcilo Perisic was indicted last week for his alleged role in atrocities committed by his troops in Croatia and Bosnia.

The general, a one-time ally of Slobodan Milosevic, is the fourth ranking Serb commander since January to announce his readiness to be tried by the UN tribunal.
