A US Army sergeant accused of carjacking a sheikh’s sport utility vehicle in Iraq told a court martial that an officer told him to do it and he did not think it was a criminal act.

“I was a soldier fulfilling my duties to my lieutenant within the rules of engagements,” Sergeant 1st Class James Williams, 37, of rural Westmoreland County, Virginia, told the hearing at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
