THE Government has failed to provide even one of the 10,000 affordable houses promised by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to low and middle-income workers almost a year ago.

The housing deal, announced by Mr Ahern in January, was critical to securing workers’ acceptance of the new Sustaining Progress pay deal.

The unions saw it as the best way to deal with low and middle-income workers’ inability to buy a house because of escalating prices.
