THE family of abducted Irish aid worker Margaret Hassan were waiting for official confirmation of reports from Iraq last night her killers had been captured.

In the first apparent breakthrough since Mrs Hassan’s disappearance last October, American and Iraqi forces reported five of 11 suspected insurgents arrested during a raid in an area south of Baghdad had confessed to involvement in her death.

The Department of Foreign Affairs last night said it had not been briefed on any the reported new developments in Iraq.
