MORE than 8,000 offshore account-holders came clean yesterday and avoided being investigated, named, shamed or prosecuted by the Revenue Commissioners.

More than 8,000 offshore account holders own up

By close of business, the final deadline for account- holders to notify Revenue that they would be making a full voluntary disclosure, more than 15,000 people came forward. The latest investigation could net the State €1 billion.

Anyone who contacted Revenue before yesterday’s deadline has until May 28 to calculate and pay in full any tax and interest due and make a full statement.
