Scots ‘all shoogled up’ at the King’s local roots

AN author who claims to have definitive proof of Elvis’ Scottish ancestry has set tongues wagging in the rural village where the King’s ancestors were said to have originated.

Writer Allan Morrison has traced Presley's roots back 250 years to Lonmay, in Aberdeenshire in north-east Scotland.

Despite this being one of several claims about Presley's origins, Morrison based in Greenock, near Glasgow insisted his as yet unpublished book, The Presley Prophecy, would stand up to scrutiny. It challenges the popular belief that Elvis's family tree could be traced back to a Paisley blacksmith who emigrated in 1745.

Morrison claimed the Presley who went to America in 1745 was, in fact, Andrew Presley, from Lonmay, near the fishing town of Fraserburgh, and he arrived in North Carolina.

Morrison said, from there, Elvis's ancestry could be directly traced to 1933, when Vernon Elvis Presley married Gladys Love Smith, resulting in the birth of Elvis Aaron Presley on January 8, 1935.

Morrison, who dismissed the claim that Elvis was linked with Paisley as "not true", saying "I have the documentation to prove it", visited a Church of the Latter-day Saints in Florida where he was able to obtain information on generations of the family stretching back to Andrew Presley.

The SNP MP for Banff & Buchan, Alex Salmond said, "Buchan folk will be all shook up or maybe 'all shoogled up' to find out that Elvis was their own kith and kin."
