SCIENTISTS have struck a major blow in the war against hospital superbugs by working out the genetic blueprint of MRSA.

They hope the DNA sequence will identify weaknesses in the bacterium’s genetic armour, and possibly its Achilles heel.

The breakthrough follows reports that deaths from MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) could double in the next five years.
