OUR cities and towns are losing the battle against the litter lout, according to the first results of the Anti-Litter League 2003 published today.

Cavan - which topped the league - was one of only three towns to achieve litter-free status. Joining them were Kilrush, Co Clare, and Fermoy, Co Cork.

Dublin city and Galway were among those graded "very heavily littered", with Sligo languishing at the foot of the table.
