Watergate awe from ex-FBI chief

THE former FBI chief admitted he was “shocked” and “deeply hurt” when he discovered that his second-in-command had been the famed Watergate source known as Deep Throat who helped impeach President Nixon.

Patrick Gray broke his silence after 32 years to describe Mark Felt as a “formidable character, and, as it turned out, a formidable foe.”

He claimed Felt was bitter at having been passed over as J Edgar Hoover’s successor and was out to sabotage Gray.
