GARDAÍ were yesterday investigating an incident in which a woman, operating a variation of the controversial Liberty pyramid scheme, claimed to have been falsely imprisoned by angry investors who lost money.

The woman is living in Clonakilty but is not from the West Cork town. She claimed she was confronted midweek by a mob of up to 30 people demanding their money back.

They invested in "speedball" a watered-down version of the Liberty scheme where investors pay €1,000 to buy in and are promised an eight-fold return on their investment.
