Joan Baez joins war protest

FOLK singer Joan Baez joined the throngs of anti-war protesters outside US President George W Bush’s Texas ranch this weekend, giving a free concert to military families.

The peace camp which began with one bereaved mother has evolved into an elaborate settlement featuring a shuttle bus service, full catering operation and several publicists.

Baez performed classic peace anthems including Where Have All the Flowers Gone and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot before some 500 people.

“In the first [anti-Vietnam] march I went to there were 10 of us,” she said. “This is huge.”
