IRISH exports were 22% lower in the first quarter of this year, raising fears about the health of the economy.

They are reflecting the view that growth this year will be half what it was last year.

The figures also suggest forecasters will have to revise their economic projections downwards for the current year to 3% or less in GDP terms against the 6.3% achieved in 2002.
