ETA will pay for bombing, vows Aznar

AS Spaniards mourned a six-year-old girl and a 57-year-old man killed by a powerful car bomb, the Spanish government yesterday blamed the Basque separatist group ETA and promised a tough reprisal against the group and its political arm.

“They (ETA) will pay for what they have done. I hope they will pay for it very soon,” Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar said after meeting King Juan Carlos in Palma de Mallorca and calling off his vacation to attend the victims’ funerals yesterday.

Mr Aznar said it was not a revenge feeling. He wanted those responsible to be brought to justice, he said.
