Huntley confesses Jessica’s murder to his parents

SOHAM murder detectives are hopeful of establishing how Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman died following the revelation that Ian Huntley admitted to his parents, Kevin and Lynda, that he deliberately killed Jessica.

He is also said to have told them details of Jessica’s final moments. They told the Daily Mirror that they were “80% there” in trying to get their son to admit what happened to the girls.

Detective Chief Supterintendent Chris Stevenson, who led the Soham murder investigation, said yesterday that he was hopeful Huntley would tell the full truth about the girls’ deaths in his house, 5 College Close, in Soham.

“I have always been clear that only three people know the truth about what happened at 5 College Close and tragically two of those are no longer with us.”

“I will read the material that the Daily Mirror has promised to send us with interest as part of this ongoing process of getting to the truth,” Supt Stevenson said.

Huntley, 30, is serving life for the double child killings. During his Old Bailey trial last year, he admitted killing the two girls but claimed both deaths were accidents.

He claimed he accidentally knocked Holly into the bath while treating her for a nosebleed. He said she drowned and he accidentally suffocated Jessica while trying to stop her screams.

Kevin Huntley, 49, told the Mirror: “We sat down with him and we’re about 80% there.

Mr Huntley said: “We’ve finally got him to tell us what really happened. He has said he killed Jessica, and told us how he did it.

“It was a terrible thing for his mother to hear, but she is the only one who could get it out of him.”
