BRITAIN is to make licensed premises contribute to the cost of controlling alcohol-related disorder in areas plagued by binge drinking under a new Alcohol Disorder Zones (ADZs) order.

The zones can only be imposed after a process lasting around three months and some businesses serving alcohol, such as restaurants, cinemas and theatres, would be exempt from the charge.

Police and the local authority need evidence of problems with alcohol-related disorder before they can say they want to designate an area an ADZ.
