Former East 17 singer shows signs of recovery
The singer remains in a critical condition following a crash on Tuesday night which saw him crushed under the wheels of his car.
Harvey, 30, suffered multiple fractures and severe abdominal injuries.
He underwent more than seven hours of abdominal surgery and faced a further operation yesterday.
His manager Simon Harrison said: “Brian is still in intensive care but the hospital said he had a stable evening in which he floated in and out of consciousness.
“He did recognise his name, which is a good sign in terms of his recovery.”
Harvey’s parents are maintaining a vigil by his bedside in Whipps Cross Hospital, east London. His on-off girlfriend, model Emma B, visited yesterday.
The 30-year-old was crushed under his Mercedes early on Tuesday as he drove to a recording session.
In the past month the singer is alleged to have made two suicide attempts.
But Harrison said yesterday’s incident was a “freak accident”.
He said: “It looks as if Brian was reversing down the road with his door open, looking out to see where he was going, and the door hit a parked car which sent his car out of control. Somehow he was thrown from the vehicle and crushed.
It was just a freak accident and a piece of seriously bad luck.
“Everybody knows he has been suffering from depression. But I spoke to him just a couple of days before this happened and he was very upbeat about recording some new music.”
