Communication is key to increasing citizens’ support for EU

ONE of the most fundamental problems facing the EU is being discussed in Ireland today and tomorrow — how to communicate the union to its citizens.

Some of those returning from the EU Finance Ministers' meeting in Punchestown had an interesting reminder of just how difficult this can be.

At Dublin airport some people were asked to remove their shoes and put them through the X-ray machine. Asked about this added security measure one of the security staff replied, "It's an EU law."
