Teens caught on video beating homeless man

TWO South Florida teenagers are facing a murder charge after a surveillance camera captured a homeless man being chased and beaten.

The two, suspected of being involved in a total of three attacks, were last night negotiating their surrender, according to police.

Both teens will face murder charges in the death of one homeless man and aggravated battery charges in the beating of two others, Detective Katherine Collins said.

Brian Hooks, 18, and Thomas Daugherty, 17, were out of the state on the weekend and had not yet been arrested, police said.

The pair are suspects in last Thursday’s videotaped beating attack of Jacques Pierre, 58, on the Fort Lauderdale campus of Florida Atlantic University. The attack was captured on a security camera.

Although Mr Pierre survived that attack, the two were named as suspects in the death of Norris Gaynor, 45, who was killed a few blocks away, and in the beating of Raymond Perez, 49, in a Church-by-the-Sea garden.

Mr Perez and Mr Pierre were listed in fair condition at Broward General Medical Centre, and doctors expected to release them in a few days.

A man at the Hooks family home declined comment to reporters after police searched the home and removed a baseball bat.
