Peace proposal

TAMIL Tiger rebels say they are ready to resume peace talks with the Sri Lankan government if the negotiations are based on their previously-rejected proposal for self-rule.

The government did not immediately respond to the rebel comments, but Norwegian mediators were due to meet President Chandrika Kumaratunga and were expected to discuss the offer.
