INDIA’S most wanted bandit is dead but the hunt is on for millions of dollars many believe he left buried in plastic bags in the jungle, a police officer said today.

Dozens of villagers have been roaming the jungles where Koose Muniswamy Veerappan, 60, a poacher, smuggler and kidnapper accused of killing some 130 people, spent three decades, said DN Borkar, the director-general of police in Karnataka state.

Veerappan was killed on Monday in an ambush by a special task force of police.
