Earl dies of heart attack

THE 11th Earl of Shaftesbury, the son of Anthony Ashley-Cooper whose body was found in the south of France last month, has died of a suspected heart attack.

The 28-year-old, also called Anthony Ashley-Cooper, died on Sunday in New York, a spokesperson for Sussex police said.

She said: “Sussex police can confirm that the 28-year-old 11th Earl of Shaftesbury died in New York on Sunday May 15, of a suspected heart attack.

“The family have asked for privacy at this very traumatic time.”

Detectives in France confirmed last month that a decomposed body recovered from the Alps was that of the 10th Earl of Shaftesbury.

The remains of the 66-year-old aristocrat had lain undiscovered since he mysteriously vanished from the Noga Hilton Hotel in the French Riviera resort of Cannes on November 6.
