HARRY POTTER is expected to conjure up box office magic this weekend as the fourth film in the wizard series goes on general release.

Fans have been warned to expect a more mature, sinister and altogether darker movie with Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which sees the teenage wizard come face-to-face with his arch nemesis Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) for the first time.

The villain uses Harry’s participation in the Triwizard tournament to make his first public appearance since he killed the young wizard’s parents 13 years earlier.

The film also sees Harry evading a fire-breathing dragon thanks to his broomstick skills, diving into the depths of a great lake and overcoming mer-people and navigating a maze with a life of its own.

Aside from the amazing special effects, Harry also gets his first taste of romance as he asks new character Cho Chang (Katie Leung) to the Yule ball.

The premiere for the film showed how Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have all come of age since the first film four years ago. But it also showcased several new young actors including Stanislav Ianevski as Viktor Krum and Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory who play two of the school champions who take part in the death defying tasks.

Reviews for the film have been mixed, with some complaining British director Mike Newell hasn’t managed to properly juggle the book’s myriad of new characters and sub-plots. But, like the three that came before it, the film is expected to rocket to the top of the box office chart.

Looks like it will be butter beer all-round for the cast and crew.
