Man issues plea for namesake

Research suggests that 73-year-old Mike Pimbury, of London, is the last person in the world to bear the name.

Author Laurie Lee has a character named Pimbury - believed to be Mike’s great-aunt - in Cider With Rosie, his 1959 memoir of Cotswolds life in the years after the First World War.

But few male Pimburys since that time have produced sons, leaving Mike in the lonely position of being the last representative of the tribe.

This morning, he went on to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme to issue a plea: “If there is anybody who is listening whose name is Pimbury, we would be very pleased to hear from you.”
