Autrian President dies

PRESIDENT Thomas Klestil of Austria has died a day after being airlifted to hospital suffering heart failure, a spokeswoman for Vienna’s General Hospital said.

Mr Klestil was due to end his second term in office today.

Hospital director Reinhard Krepler told the Austria Press Agency that Mr Klestil, 71, was surrounded by his family when he died late on Tuesday night.
